RMD – Multiple Recipient for Dispatch

Launched in 2007, RMD – Recipiente Múltiplo para Despacho de Radiofármacos (Multiple Recipient for Radiopharmaceutical Dispatch) – is a Type A, disposable package designed for the transportation and storage of radiopharmaceuticals through long distances without the need to return them to the production center.

The RMD is versatile and allows six different settings. It is able to carry one, two or three EPRs – Embalagens para Radiofármacos (Radiopharmaceutical Packages): one EPR with dry ice; one fluorine shielding; or one fluorine shielding with extra lead cylinder.

That innovative feature has accelerated the production process, reducing the client"s stock by 90% and optimizing handling and dispatch operations. The multifunctionality has also mitigated the occurrence of irregularities in storage and, mainly, employee exposure to radiation.

Another innovation of the product is the Easy Open lid, developed by MMConex to meet market demand for a highly resistant, although easy to open package. It allows to open and disconnect the RMD in a single operation, without the need of auxiliary tools. The system still guarantees package inviolability and quick access to the medication.

Internal aluminum locks are an extra safety device for handling and transportation. In the event of a fall, they prevent medication exposure to the external environment. They also receive an electrostatic coating, which allows for the asepsis demanded by the pharmaceutical market.

The same occurs with the internal, antibacterial, EPS (styrofoam) and EPE (foam blanket) holders. Their function is to position and protect the radiopharmaceuticals as well as to provide thermal insulation, when needed.

During the transportation of medication conditioned to low temperatures, a unidirectional release valve allows the vapor produced by the dry ice to escape while avoiding the entrance of impurities or residues generated by the production processes.

Rigorous piling, free fall, water jet and penetration tests performed by CDTN (Centro de Desenvolvimento da Tecnologia Nuclear - Nuclear Technology Development Center), according to the regulation No. 5.01 – CNEN (Comissão Nacional de Energia Nuclear - National Nuclear Energy Commission).

RMD is responsible for the storage and transportation of 90% of the radiopharmaceuticals produced in Brazil.
